It's Not Easy Being a Cartographer...Part II
Last week the third grade got together to do an experiment with maps and...oranges?!? Let's just say we have a newfound appreciation for the difficulties cartographers face!
We Know Our Early Explorers!
Today we showed what we know about early explorers by playing a matching game in pairs or groups of three. We rocked it!
Next stop, the Race to Colonization! Let the research and role playing begin!

Maps vs. Globes
Ever wonder what kinds of difficulties cartographers face? Today we tackled the challenge of trying to wrap a basketball or beach ball with wrapping paper (with no overlapping edges or creases) to find out!
Conclusion: It's not looking good, but some still are determined to make it work! :)

We're Off! Explorers and Adventurers!!!
Today the third grade classes all received an "unexpected" package that sent us on a quest to discover our first Social Studies unit, Explorers and Adventurers! I hope the kiddos will give you the specifics, but the gist was as follows: the classes split up into 3 groups, deciphered and followed clues that took us all around campus, planted flags, found our way through some quicksand, and earned our well-deserved treasure. I look forward to sharing even more about the unit at Parents' Night next Monday, but until then enjoy some quick pics!
